An Outdoorsy and Relaxing Weekend in Piedmont, Italy: 2 DAYS ITINERARY

Vallone del Gilba, Piedmont, Italy

This is the perfect outdoorsy escape.

The Vallone di Gilba is a picturesque area in the Valle Varaita in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. Nestled in the Cottian Alps, it offers stunning natural beauty, a rich cultural heritage, and a variety of outdoor activities, making it an attractive destination for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and adventure seekers.

This area of Piedmont is not well discovered yet but it it breathtaking, so I definitely recommend you to go and explore around.

Who is this itinerary for?

This itinerary is for everyone! This place is reachable by car, and there are several hikes around the area. A good option is also to stay and enjoy this small and homely Agriturismo. All the hikes are well-marked, but I recommend having a GPX trace, especially if you don’t speak Italian. The elevation gain of the ones I did is not bad, but as usual, make sure to be well-prepared for any emergency.

Where to stay: L’Escola e Lou Mulin

The name translates to “The School and the Mill.” This Agriturismo and BnB was created by restoring an old mill and school.

Mattia and his mum are the best and most welcoming hosts, and you can feel their passion and love for this place.

Day Hike – Col di Gilba

Unfortunately, I didn’t get the most clear views, but I have been told that on clear days the views are amazing. I have still enjoyed this hike so much.

Day Hike – Monte Ricordone

On clear days, you can see the Monviso from here! And if you know me, it is my fav mountain… 🙂 Another very enjoyable hike for me despite the clouds.

With numerous trails ranging from easy walks to challenging hikes, Vallone di Gilba caters to all levels of hikers. The trails offer breathtaking views of the alpine scenery and opportunities to explore the region’s natural beauty.

With careful planning and proper equipment, you will enjoy a memorable escape in Piedmont.

Whether you’re a seasoned trekker or a nature enthusiast, this area promises an unforgettable experience along the breathtaking Piedmont hidden region.
