Gear Essential: Pure IQ, the bottle that cleans itself

A bottle that clean itself sterilizing 99.99% of bacteria. Pure IQ transforms water from any water sources into drinkable water.

What is it?

The PureIQ Bottle is a glimpse into the future of smart drink bottles. It utilizes innovative mercury free UVC LED light technology built into the bottle lid that when activated, safely sterilizes 99.99% of bacteria found inside the drink bottle. That’s sterilising your water & cleaning the inner surface of your drink bottle all in one! The UVC light operates at a strength of 275 nanometres which has been proven to be effective against all waterborne bacteria. The bottle itself is made out of high-grade stainless steel & comes with double-walled vacuum-sealed insulation keeping your water cold for over 12 hours.

Where can you use it?

Anywhere – that’s the beauty of it! You can sterilise your water at home, at your local park, in the Australian outback, up on Mt Everest, absolutely anywhere! It is 100% travel safe so once we can travel overseas again you can use it on your trips to international locations with dodgy water quality.

When can you use it?

Anytime! As long as the water you are sterilising is transparent liquid from a freshwater source then you can sterilise anytime you like.

When can’t you use it?

The higher the level of turbidity in the water, the less effective the UVC sterilisation technology is.

Why use a UVC led bottle? (list 3 main perks)

  1. High levels of bacteria in your water can cause nausea, sickness & even serious disease. Using the UVC LED sterilisation technology in the PureIQ Bottle puts your mind at ease knowing you are drinking bacteria-free water anywhere, anytime!
  2. The longevity of the sterilizing technology. These bottles are made to last! The lifespan of the UVC sterilisation technology is 100,000 sterilization cycles. That means if you sterilise your water 3 times a day your UVC Sterilizing lamp will last 100 years!
  3. Environmentally friendly & sustainable. No replaceable filters are necessary. The UVC light is the only technology you need!

…those 3 reasons should be enough already to make you want to start using a UVC led bottle!

If you need more:

  1. The battery can last up to 3 weeks on one full charge (based on 1 sterilization cycle per day). This was designed for those that go on multi-day treks in mind.
  2. Lightweight. Every gram matters when you are carrying a pack full of equipment. The PureIQ bottle only weighs 352g when empty.
  3. It looks damn good! While we all prefer functionality over aesthetics when we go for our hikes, this bottle gives you both!

How do you use it?

It’s simple. The lid is fitted with a touchpad on top which controls the activation of the UVC LED sterilization lamp. There are 3 different modes in which the bottle can be activated for:

Normal Mode: Tap the lid twice to activate for 60 seconds for a quick sterilisation. Suitable for pre-treated water or water out of a tap.

Intense Mode: Tap the lid five times to activate for 120 seconds for an intense & comprehensive sterilisation. Suitable for sterilising untreated freshwater ie. e streams, rainwater etc.

IQ Mode: Intelligently activates every 4 hours for 20-second sterilisation to keep your bottle fresh, clean & help reduce the build-up of bacteria in your bottle.

Does it smell?

No! It is the build-up of bacteria that makes your drink bottle smell over time. As the UVC LED technology sterilizes your water & the inside of your drink bottle each time it is activated, there is no build-up of bacteria & therefore no smell! Just be sure to activate your sterilization cycle regularly.

Does it purify heavy metals, fluoride etc?

No, it doesn’t. It is designed to sterilize bacteria only.

Can you use it everywhere (hiking, home..)?

Yes absolutely. Did you know that most filters built into your tap at home do not filter out microorganisms & bacteria? While they are great at removing heavy metals, they are ineffective in neutralizing bacteria due to their small molecular structure. This is why using a filtered tap at home & then using your PureIQ Bottle to sterilise your water is the only way to get pure water!

How to clean it?

Fill up a sink or bucket with warm soapy water & wipe with a sponge. The lid is completely waterproof so do not worry about submerging it completely in water. Top tip: Use a cotton bud/tip to clean the inside of the lid where the grooves are. As this area is small & tight, dirt can often get caught in there. A cotton bud/tip is the perfect size to fit in there & scrape out any residue. Do not put the bottle or lid in the dishwasher.

How often do I need to clean it?

It depends on the type of water you are filling up in the bottle. If you are just filling up from treated water sources then once a month. However, if you are filling up from freshwater streams or lakes for example, it would be worth cleaning at least once a week. Remember as the PureIQ bottle uses UVC LED sterilization technology, it essentially cleans the inside of the bottle free of bacteria regularly so it does not need to be cleaned as often as a regular bottle.

Will the led last or need a replacement at some point?

There is no replacement necessary. The UVC LED lasts for 100,000 sterilization cycles – this means it lasts 100 years if you activate the sterilisation cycle 3 times per day!

How long does it take to recharge it?

The battery takes up to 2 hours to fully recharge.

How long does the charge last?

If only 1 sterilisation cycle is activated per day, the battery charge can last 3 weeks!

Is it suitable for multiday hikes?

Absolutely! With the long-lasting battery, it is designed for multi-day hikes in mind.

Where to store it on the backpack?

It can be stored anywhere. Either in your pack, on the side or if you purchase the drink bottle handle you can attach a carabiner clip to the handle & connect it to your pack.

Alternative uses.

  • Bottle as a foam roller.
  • You can use the UVC LED light to sterilize small surfaces or objects like rings.
